 23.09.2024.- The European Network of Holy Week and Easter Celebrations celebrates the third edition of the ‘Days of the European Network of Holy Week and Easter Celebrations’, between October 4 and 20.

The program for this edition, which is held annually, includes more than fifty activities that take place, during the aforementioned dates, in fifteen of the municipalities that are members of the European Network. This year the countries of Slovenia, Spain, Malta, Portugal and Serbia are participating.

This is an initiative, organized by the European Network itself, that makes it possible to publicize the tangible and intangible cultural values ​​of Holy Week, outside of its celebration period, in addition to offering a tourist and cultural offer for the local population and visitors. Precisely because during Holy Week and Easter citizens want to enjoy their own traditions, these days are an exceptional opportunity to learn about this immense legacy in different corners of Europe. With this, it is possible to deseasonalize the moment to get to know them and do it in a different way.

Each locality organizes its own programming that includes activities such as open days at Holy Week museums and community headquarters that preserve tradition; visits to sacred art workshops and contemporary artistic creation workshops with demonstrations; themed guided tours about Holy Week and Easter; audiovisual projections; educational programs for students; theatrical performances; exhibitions and music concerts, among others.

The president of the European Network of Holy Week and Easter Celebrations, Sergio Velasco, has invited, through a virtual appearance, all interested parties “to learn more about these traditions and the diversity of manifestations that take place in the different places of Europe”, an activity that allows “both citizens of the municipalities and visitors to delve deeper into their culture.”

Thus, Velasco has stressed that, since the birth of the European Network, “we have set ourselves the objective of promoting, disseminating and preserving cultural heritage, both material and intangible, related to the celebrations of Holy Week and Easter.”

The president has insisted that “we believe in a Europe with a shared legacy, which is why we join forces and synergies to consolidate a model for studying and disseminating the heritage of these traditions, through scientific and research work, in addition to promoting a sustainable tourism development”.

“Without a doubt, the initiative of the European Network of Holy Week and Easter Celebrations Days is a perfect occasion to discover this immense cultural heritage and the past and present of our history, to achieve a future in which the traditions that have given us accompanied continue alive”, he concluded.
